Ellie Gonzalez might be running out of space to store her accolades.

The Catholic High School runner was named the 2013-14 Gatorade Maryland Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year on Wednesday, following up her selection as Gatorade Maryland Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year last June.

Gonzalez was second at the 2013 Nike Cross National Southeast Regional Championships, finishing in 17:47. At the Nike Cross Nationals Final, she finished 12th in 17:52:1.

"I'd rather get second and run a good time any day, than get first," Gonzalez told The Baltimore Sun last fall, before the Nike Cross races. "Every race I'm in, even when I race by myself, I'm racing the clock."

Gonzalez won the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland C Conference title last season in 18:26 and was an All-Metro first-team selection by The Baltimore Sun. She was also The Sun's Girls Athlete of the Year for 2012-2013.

She is a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year award, to be announced in January.

"Ellie Gonzalez is definitely a very high-quality runner," Centennial coach Kevin McCoy said in a statement. "She has been able to run at a very high level for a few years now and her performances at the Nike Cross Nationals regionals and NXN finals were probably some of the best Maryland has ever seen."

Gonzalez -- who is coached by her father, Anibal Gonzalez -- plans to attend Dartmouth this fall, where she'll compete in cross country and track and field.
