At this time next week, we will know what team will finish No. 1 this season.
With the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference semifinals set for Tuesday and the championship on Friday, the poll is left in the hands of the four remaining teams.
Last week's quarterfinals stayed true to form to leave the top four teams intact. In Tuesday's semifinal round, No. 1 Calvert Hall takes on No. 4 Boys' Latin and No. 2 Loyola takes on No. 3 and defending league champ Gilman.
The winners meet Friday and what team survives will earn the No. 1 spot with four capable challnegers vying for the crown.
Farther down the poll, there was only one significant jump, and that belonged to South River, which impressively defeated Glenelg in the District V championship game. The Seahawks, now 16-0, move from No. 10 to No. 8 -- leapfrogging Glenelg and St. Mary's.
Anne Arundel is clearly the area's deepest county among the public school competition. In addition to South River handling last year's Class 2A-1A state champ Glenelg, Arundel surprised No. 14 Broadneck in the Class 4A-3A East region playoffs to send the Bruins home with a 13-2 mark.
With Broadneck dropping out of the Top 15 poll, Marriotts Ridge moves in at No. 15 with a 13-2 mark.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
