The Carver baseball team received an unexpected treat on Sunday when they arrived at Dick's Sporting Goods in White Marsh.
The team, which was featured in an article in The Baltimore Sun last May, thought it was going to the location to pick up practice shirts for the upcoming season.
Instead, the team and coach Michael Rosenband were greeted by the store's representative Josh Muecke, a former minor league player, who chatted briefly about his experiences in baseball. Then each player was surprised with $250 to put toward uniforms and other baseball equipment.
The team came to a consensus on team pants, belts and socks and also was able to purchase batting gloves, cleats, bats, gloves, bags and baseballs.
"The coach and what he teaches these young men are what drew our attention to this program and we are excited to play a small role in the Carver Bears’ future success and wish them luck this season," said Bobbie Bardzik, Dick's Sporting Goods community marketing manager.
