The Annapolis boys basketball team will host a team Saturday led by one of the top senior guard prospects in the country.
Upper Room Christian Academy in Raleigh, N.C., will travel to Annapolis for a 7:15 p.m. showdown against the Panthers. Upper Room is led by Rodney Purvis, the No. 1 shooting guard prospect in the country according to Rivals.com, and the No. 16 player in ESPNU's Top 100 for the 2012 class.
Purvis, who averages 28 pionts, seven rebounds and five assists, has committed to North Carolina State.
The Panthers are led by senior guard Jourdan Stickler, who averages 25.5 points and 14 rebounds. Junior guard Delaszo Smith (16 points per game) and sophomore Juan Brown are two of the Panthers' other top players.
“This is going to be an exciting game and we are honored that Upper Room wanted to play us”, Annapolis coach John Brady said in a news release. Annapolis High School’s record is 9-2 and Upper Room Christian Academy is 11-7,
Annapolis athletic director Dave Gherdes said the Panthers "really expect a sellout crowd." The JV tip is at 5:15 p.m., and the varsity game follows at 7:15 p.m. Admission is $5.
