Alum Will Bartz named new basketball coach at Gilman

Bartz replaces Owen Daly, who stepped down to take on an administrative job at the school.

Gilman has named alumnus Will Bartz its new varsity basketball coach, replacing former coach Owen Daly.

After graduating from Gilman in 1999, Bartz went to college at Franklin & Marshall where he served as a four-year student assistant basketball coach and one-year graduate assistant under Glenn Robinson. While an assistant there, the Diplomats went 119-28, winning two Centennial Conference championships and reaching the NCAA Division III Final Four in 2000. From there, Bartz became the first head boys basketball coach at Indian Creek School in Anne Arundel County, also joining the faculty as a math teacher.

Bartz also will be teaching upper school math at Gilman.

Daly stepped down after nine seasons to take an administration position at the school. In 2011-12, he guided the Greyhounds to the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference championship and the team went on to move up to the A Conference in the 2013-14 season.  Gilman made its first appearance in the A Conference playoffs in 2015-16.
