Carroll Varsity Roundup: WM field hockey clips Key for first CCAL win

Sydney Blacksten and Ellie Pruitt each scored goals in the extra overtime session, and Winters Mill’s field hockey team captured its first Carroll County Athletic League victory of the season with a victory over Francis Scott Key.

Pruitt’s score was the game-winner Thursday in Westminster, and the game was scoreless through regulation and the first OT session.

Sarah Ritchey made 14 saves for the Falcons (3-8, 1-4 in the county). FSK fell to 6-4, 1-4.

Boys Soccer

Manchester Valley 2, Thomas Johnson 0

Recap: At Manchester, Alec Wargo and Grant Scibek each netted goals for the Mavericks (8-2), who won their eighth in a row. Wargo added an assist.

JV result: MV, 4-2.

Girls Soccer

Thomas Johnson 5, Man Valley 0

Recap: At Frederick, Jenna Hollingshead made 11 saves for the Mavericks (4-6).

JV result: MV, 5-0.

Volleyball

Liberty 3, South Carroll 0

Recap: At Winfield, the Lions (5-4, 4-4 county) rolled 25-6, 25-15, 25-11 and snapped a two-match losing streak. The Cavs fell to 0-9, 0-9. No box score information was reported.

JV result: SC, 2-1.

Tuscarora 3, Winters Mill 1

Recap: At Westminster, the Falcons (9-1) suffered their first loss of the season, 25-20, 25-17, 24-26, 25-15. Ashley Bobnar had 13 kills and Kristin Vaeth had nine.
