Thursday's snowfall forced changes in area high school playoff games from private school basketball tournaments to the regional wrestling duals. Most events have been moved to Saturday, with championship finals moved to next week.
The basketball semifinals in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association are the exception and will be played Friday night, while the girls Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland semifinals and the wrestling regionals have moved to Saturday.
In the MIAA A Conference, the semifinals — No. 15 John Carroll at No. 2 Mount St. Joseph and No. 10 St. Frances at No. 3 Calvert Hall — will tip off at 7 p.m. Friday.
In the B Conference, St. Vincent Pallotti plays at St. Paul's and St. John's is at Boys' Latin, both at 5:30 p.m. In the one C Conference semifinal still to be played, Gerstell will be at Indian Creek on Saturday at 1 p.m.
In girls IAAM A Conference basketball, No. 5 St. Vincent Pallotti plans to play at No. 3 Roland Park at 2 p.m. on Saturday. No. 6 St. Frances is scheduled to play at No. 1 McDonogh at 5:30 p.m.
In the B Conference, Annapolis Area Christian is at No. 8 Severn at 1 p.m. and St. Mary's plays at Institute of Notre Dame at 5:30 p.m. In the C Conference, Garrison Forest travels to Catholic at 2 p.m. and Oldfields to St. Timothy's at 5 p.m.
The girls championship games have been moved from Sunday to Monday at Archbishop Spalding with the C Conference scheduled to play at 3 p.m., the A Conference at 5 p.m. and the B Conference at 7:30 p.m.
The state wrestling duals were also affected with half of the regional meets postponed from Thursday to Saturday. As a result, the state dual meet semifinals and finals have been moved to Tuesday at North Point. Semifinals in both classifications will begin at 5 p.m. with both finals starting at 7 p.m.
The Class 4A-3A East regional, featuring bouts between No. 6 River Hill and No. 7 Glenelg as well as No. 4 Bel Air and No. 10 Old Mill, has been moved to Saturday at 1 p.m.
The 4A-3A South meet at Damascus was also postponed until Saturday. The other 4A-3A regional meets went on as scheduled, with North Hagerstown winning in the North and Damascus in the West.
In 2A-1A, the East regional at North Caroline is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday with North Caroline taking on Harford Tech in the semifinals and Patterson Mill facing Wicomico. The finals should begin at 3 p.m.
In 2A-1A West at Mountain Ridge. North Carroll will face Middletown at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the winner facing Mountain Ridge or Southern of Garrett County in the finals at 3.
In two meets completed Wednesday, Hereford won the North and Kent Island won the South.
The MIAA ice hockey championships are scheduled to go on as planned Friday at Piney Orchard. St. Paul's and Gilman will play for the B Conference title at 4 p.m. followed by Calvert Hall and Archbishop Spalding in the A Conference final at 6 p.m.
