After losing four of its first five games this season, Archbishop Curley has played better heading into the President's Cup championship game against No. 5 Gilman on Saturday at Camden Yards.
In two games in the tournament, the Friars have outscored their opponents, 28-7. Curley beat Boys' Latin, 14-2, in the quarterfinals on March 28 before topping Digital Harbor, 14-5, in the semifinals on April 6 at Johns Hopkins.
Gilman has played in the title game in each President's Cup tournament. The Greyhounds won the inaugural event in 2011 with a 2-0 victory over Mount St. Joseph, while the Gaels beat Gilman, 12-11, in last year's title game.
To get to this year's championship, the Greyhounds routed Poly, 16-0, in the quarterfinals on March 30 before edging No. 14 Mount St. Joseph, 9-8, in the semifinals with a four-run rally in the top of the seventh inning.
Gilman defeated Archbishop Curley on the road, 8-5, in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference opener for both schools on March 20. The two teams will meet again at Gilman on Monday at 4:15 p.m.
