Marriotts Ridge senior Zoe Stukenberg showed there was one key to the No. 8 Mustangs' 13-12 girls lacrosse win over archrival Mount Hebron that lasted into the fourth overtime: Don't quit.
Stukenberg, an All-Metro midfielder headed to Maryland, scored not only the game-winning goal with 1:13 left in the fourth overtime period, but she also scored the tying goal with 1:02 left in regulation and assisted Jenna Kerr's buzzer-beating goal to tie the game at 12 in the first overtime.
"We were dragging," Stukenberg said. "We played almost an extra half. At least it felt that way. We were all dying. Our team showed unbelievable heart. … We showed how bad we wanted it. [Goalie Rachel Ortell] really came up big for us and our offense. [Mount Hebron] couldn't pick one of us out because everyone was a threat and everyone was moving."

The host Mustangs and the No. 7 Vikings played 13 minutes and 47 seconds of overtime on top of 50 all-out minutes of regulation. Stukenberg finished with six goals and three assists, while Vikings midfielder Sam Brookhart scored six goals and had one assist.
Brookhart, who is headed to Towson, gave the Vikings the lead with 10.6 seconds left in the first overtime, six minutes played all the way through. She netted a terrific shot while falling down under pressure, but Stukenberg won the next draw and Mustangs coach Natalie Gaieski called a timeout with 2.8 seconds left.
Stukenberg, standing near the restraining line, had time for one pass and she hit Kerr on the crease. Kerr spun and shot just beating the buzzer to tie the game at 12.
After that, the teams played more than seven minutes of scoreless sudden-death lacrosse. Ortell saved the only shot of the second overtime — the last of her eight saves — and all three shots went wide in the third overtime when both teams started to look tired.
In the fourth overtime, the Mustangs won the draw but turned it over on a charge. The Vikings, however, turned it back over on a crease violation.
Stukenberg found an opening and maneuvered through several defenders for the game winner.
"My team was doing a great job clearing for me," Stukenberg said. "Some days, it's working for everyone else. Today it was working for me so I figured why not?"
The Mustangs, who fell to the Vikings in last year's regional championship game, took an early 6-3 lead but Mount Hebron came back to take an 8-7 lead on Jen Giles' spin move 15.6 seconds before the half.
The Vikings went ahead 11-8 on Jordan Stevens' extra-man goal on a feed from Brookhart with 14:25 left in the second half. Stukenberg cut it to a two-goal lead before Marissa Davey slipped through a double team to cut the lead to one with 8:17 left
Ortell and Vikings goalie Madison Fisher, who finished with seven saves, had key stops before Stukenberg nailed a free position shot to tie the game at 11 with 1:02 left in regulation.
With the victory, the Mustangs (11-0, 9-0) take over sole possession of first place in the Howard County league with two games to go. They could face the Vikings (10-2, 8-1) again in the regional playoffs in a few weeks.
