When it comes to the playoffs, the Glenelg boys lacrosse team has that been-there-before way about doing things .

More proof came in Wednesday's Class 3A-2A South region title game as the No. 10 Gladiators had all the answers against Howard County rival and No. 15 Marriots Ridge.

All-Metro senior attackman Nick Wynne scored four goals and added two assists, goalie Landry Marshall finished with nine saves to lead Glenelg to an 11-6 win against the Mustangs at Western Regional Park.

Glenelg, last year's Class 2A-1A state champion and winners of four straight regional titles , will take a 16-2 mark into this weekend's state semifinal round, against the Kent Island-Patuxent winner from the East region. Marriotts Ridge, which got two goals and an assist from Bryan Sullivan, closes its season with a 14-3 record .

After Marshall made three saves on the Mustangs' first three possessions, the Gladiators attack got on track with Mikey Wynne (three goals) scoring the first two goals and Mark Darden added a third for a 3-0 lead. Every time the Mustangs pulled close, the Gladiators responded with a big ground ball, a key faceoff win by Anthony Pagnotta, or a goal, many of the important ones coming from Nick Wynne.

"It's huge," Nick Wynne said. "We knew they were going to play tough and they did — I'll give them that for sure. But somehow we pulled it off, we managed to get some in the net — more than they did. I think our offense have a lot of firepower and our keeper and defense played great. Only letting up six goals the whole game — that's excellent. If they can hold a team to that many goals we'll win every game."

After Marriotts Ridge pulled within 4-3 early in the second quarter, the Gladiators got two straight goals from Nick Wynne to take a 6-3 lead. The Mustangs had two long possessions that chewed up plenty of clock in the third quarter, but the Gladiators defense held strong.

"I think if we look at the shots they're probably pretty even — we just missed the goal a lot," Marriotts Ridge coach Dan Sageman said. "I'm not going out here upset, it hurts to lose but I'm very proud of my guys and the 14 wins we did have. [Glenelg] is a great team and there's no shame in this. I just wish we could have finished a few more."
