Last season: No. 1
Postseason: IAAM champion
Outlook: The Eagles now have won five straight IAAM titles, and they'll be hard to stop this year. The formula remains the same: lots of depth and talent — too much for most other teams to deal with.
Last season: No. 2
Postseason: Class 3A state champion
Outlook: Much like McDonogh, it's all about depth and talent. Hereford's got plenty of both, such as state champion Sarah Ashwood, and the Bulls move down from Class 3A to 2A this year.
Last season: No. 3
Postseason: Class 2A state runner-up
Outlook: The Lions have a lot of good underclassmen who can give them points all over the place. Liberty and Hereford could battle for the state title.
Last season: No. 6
Postseason: 15th in Class 4A
Outlook: Isabel Griffith won a state title in cross country, and her improvement should give the Lions a push. Dulaney, with lots of talent, could be well-rounded.
5. South River
Last season: No. 4
Postseason: Ninth in Class 4A
Outlook: The Seahawks are stuck again in a tough region and class, one of the most competitive in the state. Still, they have plenty of talent to find success again.
6. Severna Park
Last season: No. 5
Postseason: Tied for 11th in Class 4A
Outlook: As always, the Falcons have a good group of distance runners. That will help on relays, too, and Severna Park had a number of younger girls who fared well last season.
7. Western Tech
Last season: No. 10
Postseason: Class 1A state runner-up.
Outlook: The Wolverines move to Class2A this season after several strong years in Class 1A. They know how to score points in sprints, distance and field, especially with athletes such as Sharon Dorsey.
8. Milford Mill
Last season: No. 9
Postseason: Fifth in Class 3A
Outlook: The Millers lost some key performers from last season, but they always find people to help out. Milford Mill could score points in relays, as it has done for so long.
Last season: No. 8
Postseason: Fourth in Class 3A
Outlook: Despite losing a few good performers in field events, Atholton should be able to get points in distance and relays, and maybe others.
Last season: Unranked
Postseason: Eighth in Class 3A
Outlook: Franklin has some good underclassmen who helped the team finish eighth in the state last season. Continued improvement could mean bigger things.
Others considered: Glenelg, Howard, John Carroll, River Hill
