Alexis Franklin

Old Mill, jr.

The bad news for those who compete against Franklin is this: She'll be back.

Franklin turned in a spectacular season in a number of ways this spring. She finished second in the 400 hurdles at the Penn Relays (in Maryland, girls compete in the 300hurdles) with a time that was the best in the United States.

She then won the 100 and 300 hurdles, plus the 400 meters at the Anne Arundel County title meet, setting records in each race. Franklin also ran the anchor on the 1,600 relay, as Old Mill won that event and the team title.

Franklin took the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the 400 in the region meet in addition to running the anchor in the 1,600, which Old Mill won. At the Class 4A state meet, Franklin again won the two hurdle races, finished second in the 400 in a blistering race against Northwest's Olivia Ekopone and ran on the 1,600 relay team, which took third.

"I knew what I was striving for," Franklin said. "Coming into this season, I knew I wanted to end my junior year really big, spectacular. I was willing to do whatever it took."
