2013 girls track and field performers to watch

Northwestern Wildcats

Erin Causey

Hereford, junior

Bulls coach Brad Duvall said he hopes Causey will have her best season this spring. She finished second in the 1,600 meters to teammate Sarah Ashwood as Hereford won a second straight Class 3A state title in indoor track.

Abby Culp

Manchester Valley, senior

After setting the Class 1A record while winning the 3,200 at the indoor track state championship meet last month, Culp will look to end her high school career with another strong season outdoors.

Imani Daye

Northwestern, senior

During the indoor track season, Daye won the 300 and finished second in the 500 as the Wildcats placed third in the Class 1A state title meet. She was also a member of Northwestern's 1,600 relay team that came in second at the meet.

Sharon Dorsey

Western Tech, junior

Dorsey's spectacular effort at the state championship meet completed a good indoor track season. She set Class 1A records in the 500 and 800, and she also ran on the Wolverines' winning 3,200 relay team.

Ellie Gonzalez

Catholic, junior

Clearly the area's top distance runner, Gonzalez swept the 1,600 and 3,200 in the IAAM indoor track championships with dominating performances after winning her second straight conference cross country title in the fall.

Jessica Harris

Mount de Sales, junior

In the IAAM indoor track championship meet last month, Harris won the 800 and finished second in the 1,600. For the first part of the indoor track season, she had one of the best times in the country in the 800.

Lakin Hatcher

McDonogh, sophomore

Able to score a lot of points, Hatcher can fill several roles in the lineup for Eagles coach Jeff Sanborn. She can run sprints, contribute in relays and also perform in field events.

Julia Nardone

Glenelg, sophomore

After winning the 1,600 and 3,200 in the Class 2A indoor track state meet last month, Nardone looks to become one of the area's best distance runners in her second year of high school.

Tabitha Pyatt

Poly, junior

One of the area's top performers in the high jump, Pyatt finished second in the Class 4A indoor track state championship meet. She can also help the Engineers with her ability to run in several different races.

Sarah Rinehart

Liberty, sophomore

A solid distance runner who performed well in indoor track, Rinehart helps the Lions with distance runs and relays. She won the 800 in the Class 2A West regional meet and finished third at the state meet.
