Outlook: The Admirals scored big wins over Bryn Mawr and Severna Park last April, but they weren't consistent enough to finish higher than ninth in the A Conference. Look for a strong line of midfielders and a solid defense to change that.

Coach: Dave Gehrdes

Last season: 11-3-1, unranked

Postseason: Class 4A-3A East regional quarterfinalist

Outlook: The Panthers suffered all three losses last season to South River and Broadneck (twice), but they beat eventual state champion Severna Park. This year, with nine starters back and several key transfers, they could give all three trouble.

14. Catonsville

Coach: Becky Clipp

Last season: 17-2, No. 12

Postseason: Class 4A-3A state semifinalist

Outlook: The Comets return 10 starters from the team that fell to Severna Park, 15-10, in last year's state semifinal. With a solid all-around squad, they always have a big edge in possession with Deb Milani, who won 121 draws last season.

15. St. Paul's

Coach: Brooke Kuhl-McClelland

Last season: 8-9, No. 13

Postseason: IAAM A Conference quarterfinalist

Outlook: The Gators return just half of their starters to a young team that includes four freshmen. Still, they have a lot of talent. The veterans and youngsters seem to mesh well, and they already have more chemistry than a year ago.

Others considered: Archbishop Spalding (7-13, unranked), Fallston (15-4-1, unranked), Hereford (13-4, unranked), John Carroll (7-10, unranked), Mount de Sales (9-8, unranked), North Harford (12-5, unranked), Roland Park (10-8, No. 11).
