2013 girls lacrosse players to watch

Haley Bordner

Century, midfielder, senior

An All-Metro second-team pick last season, the versatile midfielder led the state Class 3A-2A champions in points (89) and assists (41), while also winning 41 draws and playing strong defense. She has signed to play at Florida.

Sammi Burgess

McDonogh, attacker, senior

Coming off knee surgery, the 2012 All-Metro second-team selection should be the same explosive dodger who excelled at finishing last season with 49 goals. This year, the Eagles will look to the Florida-bound Burgess to run their offense.

Caroline Federico

Maryvale, goalie, senior

Last season's All-Metro goalie posted a 9.0 goals-against average and had a save rate of 58 percent. Federico made 11 saves in the Lions' 12-11 loss to McDonogh in the IAAM A Conference championship game. She is headed for Johns Hopkins.

Carolyn Jamison

Westminster, attacker, senior

After tearing an ACL in her sophomore year, Jamison returned to her fierce and fearless attacking style in time to help the Owls to the Class 4A-3A title game last season. Jamison, who has committed to Maryland, finished with 55 goals and 39 assists.

Deb Milani

Catonsville, midfielder, senior

An All-Metro second-team player, Milani averaged seven draws per game last season, finishing with 121. She also scored eight or more goals four times and led the Comets with 93 goals and 17 assists. She has signed with Maryland.

Abby Smucker

C. Milton Wright, midfielder, senior

Most opponents face-guarded or schemed against the Penn State-bound Smucker, but she still scored 53 goals and had 28 assists. Also strong on the defensive end, the All-Metro second-team choice had 21 caused turnovers and 55 ground balls.

Kate Snouffer

Bryn Mawr, midfielder, senior

Picked for the All-Metro second team last season, Snouffer was the Mawrtians' go-to player. Her strong moves to goal and rocket shot fueled 39 goals, but she also had 25 assists. Headed to Georgetown, she also had 35 draw controls and 41 ground balls.

Zoe Stukenberg

Marriotts Ridge, midfielder, senior

A smooth midfielder who can do a little bit of everything, Stukenberg handled the draw, played solid defense and led the Mustangs in scoring with 67 goals and 27 assists. An All-Metro first-team pick last season, she has signed with Maryland.

Morgan Torggler

Severna Park, midfielder, senior

On the All-Metro first team last season, the Maryland-bound Torggler led the Falcons with 61 goals and 10 assists despite drawing frequent face guards. She scored five goals in the state final for the second time as the Falcons repeated as Class 4A-3A champs.

Megan Whittle

McDonogh, attacker, junior

A smart shooter who excels at hitting the corners, the All-Metro first-team selection had 49 goals and nine assists for the No. 1 Eagles. Whittle, who has committed to Maryland, scored three goals in the IAAM A Conference title victory.
