Girls lacrosse: Players to watch

Erica Bodt

John Carroll, midfield, junior

Committed to Syracuse, this All-Metro second-team selection excels at winning loose balls and creating instant offense. A whiz on the draw, she controlled 123 last season and often snatched them out of the air, but she also had 24 caused turnovers and scored 18 goals.

Jen Cook

McDonogh, attack, senior

A key cog in a balanced Eagles attack that scored 341 goals last season, Cook is always in the mix, with 36 goals and 14assists. She has signed with Maryland and was selected for the U.S. Under-19 team that will play in the world championships in Germany in August.

Taylor Cummings

McDonogh, midfield, junior

A game-changer with her ability to win possession, Cummings was the only sophomore first-team All-Metro selection last year and has committed orally to Maryland. She was a major force on the draw and co-leading scorer for the Eagles with 47 goals and 11 assists.

Brooks Lawler

McDonogh, midfield, senior

Too fast for most defenders, Lawler excelled one-on-one whether dodging her way to the cage (41 goals) or winning loose balls (62 ground balls). A first-team All-Metro pick headed to Northwestern, she is right-handed but is perhaps a better shooter with her left.

Maggie McCormick

Liberty, midfield, senior

Just about everything the Lions do runs through their second-team All-Metro pick, who led them in assists (47) and points (90) last season. Headed to Penn State, the 5-foot-11 McCormick knows how to use her height advantage to win draws and beat goalies to the high corners.

Erin McMunn

Winters Mill, attack, senior

A U.S. Under-19 team player headed to Princeton, McMunn can use her excellent stick skills and vision around the crease to distribute or finish. She scored 52 goals last season on impressive 69 percent shooting, and dished out 24 assists.

Alice Mercer

Century, midfield, junior

Mercer makes big offensive plays and also marks the opposition's top offensive threat in the midfield. She contributed 56goals and 14 assists to the Knights' 2010 state title run and has committed orally to Maryland.

Morgan Rubin

Bryn Mawr, attack, senior

A dynamic attacker headed for North Carolina, Rubin came on strong during the second half of last season to give defenders all kinds of trouble. She has a great first step and a knack for finding ways to score, contributing 39 goals and 18 assists.

Caroline Seats

Roland Park, midfield, senior

The Reds' All-Metro first-team pick dominated the attack with 44 goals and 34 assists and cleaned up in the midfield with 87 ground balls, 71 draw controls and 14 interceptions. Seats, who had eight goals versus Notre Dame Prep, has signed with Georgetown.

Covie Stanwick

Notre Dame Prep, attack, senior

Headed to Boston College, the two-time All-Metro selection and U.S. Under-19 team member is the No. 1 senior recruit in the nation, according to Inside Lacrosse. Stellar around the crease, Stanwick has an uncanny feel for the offense and can feed (58 assists) or finish (76 goals) with equal precision.
