Winters Mill, senior
Oneda had quietly grown into one of the area's top distance runners the past few years, but she took it to another level this fall.
The Falcons standout was perfect this high school season, winning every race she ran in until a sixth-place finish at the regional Foot Locker race last weekend.
After just missing out on winning the Class 2A state title last season, Oneda made sure there would be no doubts this year.
She trained by working out with the boys at Winters Mill, who won the state championship this fall. And she took home the state title in 18minutes, 28.3 seconds, beating fellow All-Metro pick Tiffany Lang of Oakland Mills by 1:19.6. Her performance was a big reason the Falcons finished fourth, only nine points out of first.
"Hannah's great senior season came with a lot of hard work and dedication," Winters Mill coach Kelly Gruber said. "I think the greatest thing about her season this year was how she became a great team captain as well. She really motivated the team and helped them to see that placing well at the states was in reach."Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
