In capturing her first Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland cross country championship last Wednesday, the sophomore dominated the field as well as the Oregon Ridge Park course with a record-breaking performance. Gonzalez, who earned second-team All-Metro honors last season, covered the 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes, 59 seconds to finish 1:30 in front of runner-up Holly Cook of John Carroll and break the six-year-old meet record by 31 seconds. Gonzalez, who competes In the C Conference for the Cubs, finished second in last year's championship to McDonogh's Madeline Dulac. As a freshman, Gonzalez also earned first-team All-Metro honors in outdoor track after capturing the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races in the IAAM championships, and she was a second-team selection in indoor track with a conference title in the 800.
