Girls Athlete of the Week: Teira Pendleton, Poly, basketball

In two games last week, the junior scored nearly half of No. 4 Poly's points in a pair of Baltimore City victories. The 5-foot-8 forward-guard had 26 points and 13 rebounds in a 44-37 win over next-door rival Western in a city Division I game and had 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals in a 53-15 non-division win over Ben Franklin-Masonville. Pendleton, who played on last season's team that advanced to the Class 4A state semifinals, has four double-doubles this season and averages 15.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.4 steals for a balanced Engineers (6-1) team. Pendleton, who also plays volleyball for the Engineers, has a 3.83 GPA in Poly's A-Course and passed the Advanced Placement Government and Politics exam as a sophomore.
