Girls Athlete of the Week: Kelsie Bacon, St. Timothy's, basketball

The 5-foot-5 senior guard scored 21 points to lead St. Timothy's to its first victory over Bryn Mawr's varsity team in about 50 years. Bacon also had four assists and four steals in the 61-52 win that marked the 111th edition of what is believed to be the longest continuous high school girls basketball series in the country. St. Tim's coach Mike Buchanan said the last time his team won a varsity vs. varsity match was in the early 1960s. Last week, Bacon also had nine points, five assists and five steals in a 58-20 win over Park, and 19 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists in a 58-29 win over Glenelg Country as her team improved to 6-1 and 4-0 in the IAAM C Conference. She is averaging 14.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 3.9 steals and only 2.4 turnovers this season. Bacon, who has a 3.2 GPA, plays for the Lady Tigers AAU team and also plays soccer and softball for St. Tim's.
