The freshman enjoyed a stellar first season, making history at Oakland Mills as she became the first girl runner from the school to capture a state title. On Nov. 10 at Hereford, Lang captured the Class 2A race with a time of 19 minutes, 21.8 seconds for a 30-second win over second-place finisher Claire Beautz of Poolesville. Her victory helped the Oakland Mills girls team to second place in the classification — matching the program's best-ever finish in 1995. Lang's parents, Phil and Vicki, have coached the Oakland Mills program for the past 18 years. When she was 9 years old, she won the first of two straight AAU junior national championships. This season, she set a school record on her home course at the Scorpion Crawl Invitational, took second in the Howard County championship and won the South region leading up to her fine performance at states. Lang also will run in both the indoor and outdoor track seasons for the Scorpions. Her older sister, Tiffany, currently a freshman runner at UNC-Charlotte, took second at states as a senior at Oakland Mills last year.
