The freshman defeated her teammate Victoria Kogan, 6-1, 6-4, to win the state girls singles championship Saturday. Lu also won the Howard County championship but fell to Kogan, a sophomore, in the regional final. Her state title is the county's first since Glenelg's Marianne Baker in 2002. Lu is only the second Baltimore-area girl to win a singles title in the last 10 years and it is believed to be the first time a player has defeated a teammate in the final. Lu, who spent half the season as the Raiders' No. 2 girls singles player and half at No. 1, helped the Raiders go 20-0 this spring. The straight 'A' student won every match she played during the regular season.
