The state high school football playoffs move on to the regional finals with 13 Baltimore-area teams advancing to next weekend’s action.
Five local No. 1 seeds made it though the first round — Broadneck, Milford Mill, Westminster, Havre de Grace and Reginald Lewis. Lewis advanced despite losing to Overlea because Overlea had to forfeit for using an ineligible player.
The field still includes all four defending state champions, although only three can advance to the state semifinals. Damascus, which won in Class 3A the past two years, is now in 2A and faces defending 2A champ Walkersville on Friday. In Class 4A, Wise is going for a third straight title, and in 1A, Fort Hill is aiming for a state record fifth in a row.
