Field hockey Player of the Year: Linnea Gonzales of Patterson Mill

Player of the year

Linnea Gonzales

Patterson Mill, midfield, junior

Thought of by many as the top junior prospect in the nation, Gonzales used her blazing speed, unrivaled stick skills and rocket-like shot to rack up 36 goals and 22 assists this season, leading the Huskies into the Class 1A state final.

She was one of just 23 players selected for USA Field Hockey's Under-17 junior national team, and was picked by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association as a third-team All-American in 2012.

"Linnea is the most talented high school player I have seen in the entire country," Patterson Mill coach Shannon Swinscoe said.

Gonzales nurtures that talent by spending hours on end practicing her craft. Her passion for the game and intense determination to improve are moving her ever-closer to her ultimate dream of playing in the Olympics.

She has verbally committed to continue her career at Maryland.
