The Severna Park boys turned in dominant performances throughout this cross country season, but the Falcons may have saved their best for last.

Ryan Forsyth led the way with his first-place finish as top-ranked Severna Park captured its second consecutive Class 4A state title Saturday at McDaniel College. The Falcons placed five runners in the top 14 and finished with 38 points, rolling over runner-up and No. 2 Dulaney by 76 points.

Forsyth's winning time of 15:41.3 was best in any of the four classes, and he became the first-ever Severna Park individual state champion. Rhys Burgett (third), Dillon Cooley (11th), Jack Kiely (13th) and Kevin Hines (14th) rounded out the Falcons' scoring.

Severna Park won every meet but one this season.

"We were pretty confident coming in that we had the best team," Falcons coach Josh Alcombright said. "It's a special group of guys, and I feel privileged to be a part of it."

The top-ranked Centennial girls used a similar formula en route to the Class 3A state title. Shreya Nalubola paced the Eagles by winning the race in 18:41.1 as Centennial put four runners in the top 12 and five in the top 25.

The Eagles finished with 56 points, beating out No. 5 River Hill (67). Devin McIntyre (seventh), Kara Taylor (11th), Ally Driscoll (12th) and Ilana Harris (25th) also ran well to help the Eagles win the title.

"I'm so proud of my team," Nalubola said. "We run with our hearts. It's such a great team dynamic."

The No. 2 Hereford girls won their third state title in four years. Hereford moved down to Class 2A this year and finished with 73 points to beat out Poolesville (102).

Sarah Coffey's second-place finish led Hereford. Erin Causey (12th), Lacey Brown (18th), Alicia Kozlowski (21st) and Emily Causey (26th) also gave the Bulls points.

Isabel Griffith of No. 6 Dulaney and Manchester Valley's Katie Leisher were the other two individual state champions. Griffith captured her first Class 4A state crown in 18:26.2 — the best time in any of the four classes — after jumping out in front early and taking command.

"I just knew I needed to get out there and set that pace and make it challenging," Griffith said. "I had a [good] feeling before the race."

Leisher's time of 19:30.9 beat Jesse Narr of Cambridge/South Dorchester by one minute, 16 seconds in Class 1A. Manchester Valley finished sixth overall.

The No. 3 Mount Hebron boys took second in Class 3A with 86 points, 14 behind victorious Thomas Johnson. Liberty's boys and the No. 3 South River girls both finished third, in Class 2A and 4A, respectively.

This meet was held at McDaniel instead of its usual location at Hereford due to construction at the school.
