Unbeaten Catonsville scored five touchdowns on plays over 50 yards and dominated visiting Hereford, 50-14, Friday night. It was the Comets' first win over the Bulls since 1995.

In many of those Hereford victories, the Bulls enjoyed a running clock, thanks to leads over 35 points.

This time, the Comets (5-0) watched the time tick away, thanks to another dominating second half, in which they outscored the visitors, 33-7.

Catonsville has now outscored its opponents 114-24 in the second half this season.

"Even at halftime, it was 17-7 and we get the ball back, and then we just imploded," said Hereford coach Steve Turnbaugh, whose team fell to 2-3. "It was a nightmare."

The game was more like a dream for Catonsville junior running back DeAndre' Lane, who rushed 10 times for 196 yards.

Lane (509 yards rushing this season) scored twice in the first half — both on 64-yard runs — and he added a 58-yard score in the second half.

He also had a 75-yard punt return in the second half.

"That was our game plan, open up holes for DeAndre' and let him run free," Catonsville senior lineman Antoine Wright said.

Catonsville only ran nine offensive plays in the second half and scored on four of them.

Eric Medinger's extra point following Lane's 58-yard touchdown run made it 24-7 with 9:41 left in the third period.

On Hereford's next series, Deniko Carter forced a fumble that was recovered by Julian Singletary.

Comet quarterback Aaron Jones hit Carter on a deep slant on the next play, and the Comets led 30-7 with 7:26 remaining.

"Coach told me to be patient and I'm going to get the ball, so I just waited until the ball came to me, and I made it happen for my team," Carter said.

Carter's 38-yard interception return on Hereford's next play again set up the Comet offense, as Jones scampered in from six yards.

Lane's punt return and Josh Hylton's 50-yard run ended the Comets' scoring.

Hereford, playing without three two-way starters, got a 23-yard run from Austin Brown in the first half and a 15-yard rush from quarterback Jay Patti in the second half for its only touchdowns.

"This was a very, very big win for us," Carter said.
