Severna Park, senior

* Spent most of season as No. 2 runner on the powerful Class 4A champion Severna Park team

* Ran strongly and took second to teammate Ryan Forsyth at Spiked Shoe Invitational

* Did the same thing at Anne Arundel County title meet and Class 4A East regional

* Finished third in Class 4A state title meet as Falcons crushed the field

Dillon Cooley

Severna Park, senior

* Helped top-ranked Severna Park compile one of the most dominant seasons in recent years and take the Class 4A state title

* Took sixth in state Class 4A title race as Falcons grabbed six of top eight spots

* Cooley also took sixth in the Class 4A East regional and fourth in Anne Arundel County title meet

* Finished the season 11th in Class 4A state meet as Severna Park won

David Eisenhauer

Wilde Lake, junior

* Finished second in the Spiked Shoe meet in September and kept getting better

* Took third in the Howard County championship meet

* Won the Class 3A East regional

* Topped it all off by running second in the Class 3A state meet

Chris Heydrick

River Hill, junior

* After a good sophomore season last fall, Heydrick really ran well this season

* Took fifth in the Gunpowder Invitational

* Won the Howard County championship race and took second in the Class 3A East Region

* Finished fifth in the Class 3A state meet, closing a strong postseason

John Mead

Century, senior

* Ran well in a number of tough meets this season, improving over last year

* Took third in MVAL championship meet and took second in Carroll County meet six days later

* Finished fifth in Class 2A West region meet

* Closed season with second-place finish in Class 2A state title meet at McDaniel College

Brent Musselman

South River, senior

* Had a very consistent season, especially in big races this fall

* Won both Seahawk and Doc Jones Invitationals

* Also took sixth in the Spiked Shoe Invitational

* Ended up with strong postseason performances, including third in both Anne Arundel and Class 4A East races and sixth in the state meet

Mikey Singer

McDonogh, junior

* Continues to improve each season and remains a top distance runner in private schools

* Finished second to Tyler Spear — for a second straight year — at the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association title meet

* Also took second behind Spear at the Barnhart Invitational

* Took seventh at the Spiked Shoe Invitational in September

Tyler Spear

Loyola, senior

* Led the way as Loyola won its fifth straight MIAA A Conference team title

* Spear easily won his second-straight MIAA individual championship, beating McDonogh's Mikey Singer by nearly 30 seconds

* Won the Howard County Invitational

* Also took first in the Barnhart Invitational and fourth in a tough field at Spiked Shoe

Eric Walz

Dulaney, sophomore

* Had a breakout season, becoming a top-flight distance runner

* Finished 10th at the Barnhart Invitational in late September

* Won both the Baltimore County and Class 4A North region meets

* Took ninth place in the very tough Class 4A state title race
