Heydrick, a junior, capped a strong season with victories in the 800- and 1,600-meter dashes in the Howard County, Class 3A East region and state meets.
He ran the 1,600 in 4:17.50 at the state meet, according to athletic.net, the seventh-fastest time ever at the indoor meet. Heydrick set school records this winter in the 800 and distance medley relay.
River Hill coach Paul Hugus said he could see the way Heydrick was developing, especially in the latter part of the season, and said the future could be even more fun to watch.
"Chris is an incredible talent with a great work ethic," Hugus said. "He has so much raw speed and has gotten so much stronger over the three years he's been at River Hill. I'm excited to see what Chris can do with another year of training before he goes to college."
