In a season filled with high expectations, George Campbell exceeded all of them.

The highly-touted senior led the Eagles to the their seventh Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A conference title and first undefeated season. Campbell finished with 23 goals and had 15 assists and as the main cog in McDonogh's attack.

He was also named the Gatorade State Player of the Year and was a National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American.

Campbell chose to compete at the club level for Baltimore Celtic so he could also play high school soccer. U.S. Development Academy rules prohibit athletes from playing for their high school team.

"George is one of the greatest players to ever play at McDonogh," Eagles coach Steve Nichols said. "He has it all — the technical ability, the physical ability, the mental ability to change the game whenever he steps on the field. He can run at people as well as anybody I have ever coached, but also can press and defend as well. He is technically brilliant and has an incredible attitude.

"His drive and desire are unmatched. He was lucky to be in some great environments and was like a sponge learning from all the great players who came before him."

Campbell will play at Maryland.
