KEYS TO VICTORY
No. 1 Boys' Latin and No. 2 St. Paul's are scheduled to meet Tuesday, the final day of the regular season in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference, in an important matchup as several teams in the league jockey for playoff position.
The visiting Lakers are in the driver's seat for the top seed in the postseason with a 7-0 record in the league heading into Friday's games. Following a heartbreaking 11-10 overtime loss at No. 3 McDonogh on Tuesday, St. Paul's is now 5-2 and in fourth place. McDonogh and No. 4 Gilman are both 6-1.
On Tuesday, the Lakers could be playing for a perfect regular season, while the Crusaders would like to move up in the standings and go into the postseason on a high note.
Both teams are known for their powerful attacks, but they also have talented and experienced defenses that could decide the outcome. The team that can stay organized on defense and prove to be most durable will likely win.
Faceoffs also will be key in the game, with St. Paul's leaning on Mike D'Amelio and Boys' Latin countering with Bryan Lichtenauer and Hunter Moreland.
One advantage for the Lakers throughout the season has been unmatched depth — particularly in the middle of the field — that has shown up late in games.
