In his first four seasons as coach of his alma mater, Noone guided the Seahawks to a state championship in 2009 and a second state title-game appearance last spring. His resume added an unexpected and most gratifying 2012 season.

Losing six starters from last year's team and working with a young roster that included just eight seniors, the No. 8 Seahawks exceeded all expectations in going 20-0 and winning the program's second Class 4A-3A state championship.

The Seahawks had to weather plenty of storms to win the tough Anne Arundel County crown. Then they defeated Glenelg, last year's 2A-1A state champion, to claim the District V title before going back to work to beat many of the same Anne Arundel teams a second time to come out of the East region.

"The biggest issue was getting the kids to believe in what they were doing and trusting their instincts," said Noone, who has an 80-12 career record. "The younger kids started to jell with the older kids, and everything just clicked."

The team's 10-8 win over Westminster in the state final provided the prime example of what Noone and his Seahawks were all about this season. After falling behind 7-0, the Seahawks displayed belief and confidence in dominating the second half. Noone also praised the knowledge and hard work of his assistant coaches — Greg Speed, Mike Hicks, Steve Marohl, Gary Luiza and Steve Hincks.
