Boys indoor track: Performer of the Year
Boys Indoor Track Performer of the Year: Matt Jablonski, Loyola (Karl Merton Ferron, Baltimore Sun / March 17, 2011)
The Dons senior took things to a different level during this indoor season.
Jablonski made it his goal to qualify for and run in the Millrose Games in New York City. It is known as one of the most famous track meets in the country, and Jablonski wanted to make it.
He got his goal and then nearly won the mile there, as his late charge came up just short. Chad Noelle won the race in 4 minutes, 16.71 seconds, but Jablonski was right there in 4:16.88.
"This is something I've always wanted to do," Jablonski said the week of the race. "I've always known about the race, and it's a race I've always wanted to be in."
Jablonski also won the 1,600 at the Frostbite Invite here in late December, plus the mile at the Montgomery Invitational about two weeks later. He also ran on the winning distance medley that day. Later in the winter, Jablonski fared very well in other national races.
He's headed to Oregon to run in the fall.
