Coach of the year

With a talented, senior-heavy group that had the highest of expectations, the Knights under Daryl Wade had a perfect 27-0 season capped by a 59-48 win over Westlake in the Class 3A state championship game.

Wade effectively blended a talented cast that brought back All-Metro second-team picks Omari George and Timmy Bond and welcomed Dunbar transfer and fellow second-teamer Kamau Stokes.

With brothers John and Juwan Grant handling things down low and junior Blair Davis and senior Aaron Williams also playing key roles in the backcourt, the Knights answered every challenge.

"It's very special. The kids set forth the goal to be successful, and as close as they are, it wasn't hard because they play team ball," Wade said. "Their tightness as a family was the key."

One of the biggest priorities going into the season was closing out games strong, something the team had difficulty doing in the past. They did just that by successfully sharing the basketball, with Wade making sure his players kept their attention on the game immediately in front of them.
