The senior quarterback threw for six touchdowns and ran for three more in leading the No. 4 Owls (12-0) to a 62-28 win over Sherwood in the Class 4A North regional final. With his second touchdown, Kern broke the state record of 56 touchdown passes in a season set by Arundel's Billy Cosh in 2008. By the end of the night, Kern boosted the record to 61. He completed 13 of 19 passes for 308 yards, including an 84-yard touchdown strike to Bradley Metcalf on the game's first play from scrimmage. He did not throw an interception and he also ran five times for 47 yards. For the season, Kern has completed 188 of 310 passes for 3,612 yards with 10 interceptions and has run 51 times for 87 yards and four touchdowns. Kern, who has a 2.8 GPA, is also the point guard on the basketball team.
