Boys Athlete of the Week (May 22): Devin McNamara, Loyola, lacrosse (Gene Sweeney Jr., Baltimore Sun / May 31, 2012)

The senior attackman took the lead role in the Dons' improbable run to the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship, highlighted by his two-goal, four-assist performance in Friday's 10-9 upset win over previously undefeated Boys' Latin to win the title. Capping the standout performance for McNamara was the title-clinching goal with 1:56 to play. The Dons, who earned the sixth and final playoff spot in the final day of the regular season, trailed 6-0 after the first quarter and 9-7 in the closing minutes of regulation. McNamara opened last week with two goals and five assists in a 13-4 upset over second-seeded McDonogh on May 14. Including a three-goal, five-assist effort in a 17-14 quarterfinal round win over third-seeded Gilman on May 10, the Villanova-bound McNamara finished with 21 points in the three playoff wins and finished the season with 92 points (43 goals and 49 assists).
