Varsity roundup: Harford Tech baseball gets 14 hits, upsets No. 5 North Harford, 9-3

Harford Tech baseball defeated No. 5 North Harford, 9-3, in a Harford County league baseball game Monday.

The visiting Cobras pounded out 14 hits, 11 of them coming off starter Brian Shaffer, who allowed seven runs while walking two and striking out seven for the Hawks (10-2).

A.J. Borg led Harford with two doubles and three RBIs, going 3-for-4. Tyler Mister and Justin Smith also were 3-for-4, while Jeremy Brown went 3-5 with two triples.

No. 8 Archbishop Curley 5, Broadneck 4: Third baseman Marty Costes had a banner day for the host Friars (9-6), going 3-for-3 with a walk, two home runs and four RBIs.

He hit a two-run home run in the fifth and a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh.

Severn 8, Boys' Latin 7: Severn and Boys' Latin traded the lead five times at Kinder Park, and the host Admirals wound up winning in extra innings over the Lakers on a walk-off single by Kyle Nicholas in the bottom of the eighth.

Boys lacrosse

No. 8 Westminster 16, Century 6: Four players — Ryan Hursey, Hunter Davis, Brian Kohr and Josh Rohrback — had three goals to lead the Owls (8-0) past the Knights.

Girls lacrosse

No. 5 Archbishop Spalding 18, Holton-Arms 13: Alexis Marcionette scored four goals to lead the Cavaliers over visiting Holton-Arms in a nonleague game.

Abbey Scherwood, Marissa Brown and Julianna Brown also scored for Spalding in the win.
