No. 14 John Carroll used a combination of the inside play of Mike Tertsea and alternating zone defenses to frustrate visiting No. 2 Mount St. Joseph. The Patriots led the entire game and won every quarter to upset the Gaels, 47-39, on Friday night.
Tertsea finished with a game-high 16 points and Jordan Martin made three 3-pointers in the second half to keep John Carroll in front.
The slowdown tempo favored the Patriots (8-5, 1-1 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference), who led 18-13 at halftime. Kyle Doran led Mount St. Joseph (9-2, 3-2) with 12points.
No. 9 Calvert Hall 71, Western Tech 46: After five games in eight days, some teams would drop from exhaustion, but not the Cardinals.
Calvert Hall just keep rolling and improved to 10-1 with a rout of visiting Western Tech.
Junior forward Evan Phoenix had 14 points and 13 rebounds, and teammate Drew Edwards, a junior guard, finished with 13 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.
Senior guard Donald Imes led Western Tech with 22 points.

Mount Carmel 63, Loyola 61, OT: Brian Jefferson (15 points) scored all five of the Cougars' overtime points to lead Mount Carmel (6-4, 3-4 MIAA A Conference) over the host Dons (3-5, 1-3).
Loyola's Ryan Fields (13 points) made two free throws with two seconds left to force overtime.
Archbishop Spalding 53, Glenelg Country School 49: Jourdan Grant, who signed with UMBC, had a game-high 30 points, including six 3-pointers for the Cavaliers (4-5, 2-2 MIAA A Conference). The Dragons (3-5, 2-4) lost their second in a row.
Arundel 53, Cape Henlopen (Del.) 51: Bruce Spruell scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half as the host Wildcats (4-2) won a come-from-behind victory over the Vikings (4-2).
Cape Henlopen led 38-19 at halftime, but Arundel held the Vikings to five points in the third quarter.
No. 3 Roland Park 65, Archbishop Spalding 39: Lindsay Edwards scored 17 points to power the visiting Reds (5-2) past the Cavaliers.
Roland Park led 35-12 at the break.
Annapolis Area Christian School 58, Indian Creek 36: Taylor Murray scored 36 points to power host AACS (5-3) past Indian Creek (4-5).
Cydni Cole, who will play at George Mason, had 22 points for Indian Creek.
St. Timothy's wins two: The Brownies (8-0) won away and at home to extend their winning streak to 28games.
St. Tim's beat host Friends, 58-21, and came home to beat Dalton (N.Y.), 54-23.
Kayla Bacon had 12 points and Hailey Dayton had 11 against the Quakers. Olivia Finckel had 14 points and Dayton added 13 points against the Tigers.
