Basketball roundup: Glenelg CS boys top No. 4 John Carroll, 65-60

Glenelg Country School boys basketball was on a three-game losing streak, including a one-point loss Wednesday to No. 8 Archbishop Spalding. The Dragons came ready to play, according to coach Kevin Quinlan, and point guard Kevin Boyd scored a game-high 27 points as Glenelg upset No. 4 John Carroll, 65-60, in a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference game Friday night.

"[John Carroll] had the upper hand in the first half," Quinlan said. "But we stuck with them. And Boyd attacked the rim in the second half, getting us points on the foul line."

Boyd was 13-for-18 on free throws.

No. 1 Mount St. Joseph 59, Archbishop Carroll (D.C.) 54: Ohio State-bound Kameron Williams scored 22points and the Gaels (6-1) held off a late rally by the Lions (0-2) in an opening-round victory at the Gonzaga D.C. Classic.

Mount St. Joseph advances to tonight's semifinal at 8:30, when they will face Bullis Prep (3-0), a 61-49 winner over Roman Catholic (Pa.).

No. 2 Dunbar 66, Maret (D.C.) 44: Daxter Miles led all scorers with 20 points as the Poets (2-0) defeated the visiting Frogs from Washington. Anthony Brown had 13 and Justin McNair added 11 in the win.

No. 5 Edmondson 75, KASA 52: Isiah Tripp scored 20 and Darius Walker added 13 points as the Red Storm (2-0) rolled over the visiting Eagles in Baltimore City.

No. 7 City 60, Mervo 36: The visiting Knights (2-0) went on a 25-11 run in the fourth quarter to pull away. Omari George scored 16 points and John Grant added 15.

Douglass 52, W.E.B. DuBois 36: Dontrell Kelly had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the Ducks (1-1) over the Panthers.


Howard 52, No. 9 Glenelg 46: The host Lions (2-0) rallied in the second half, outscoring the Gladiators (0-1) 18-12 in the third quarter. Glenelg was held to three field goals in the second half. The rest of their points came from the foul line.

No. 3 Archbishop Spalding 46, No. 12 Seton Keough 34: Torri Chestnut scored a game-high 15 points to power the visiting Cavaliers past the Gators.

No. 5 St. Vincent Pallotti 56, John Carroll 46: Beverly Ogunrinde had 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the Panthers (2-1) over the Patriots in league play. Yemaya Johnson scored 14 points for John Carroll. Pallotti led 28-24 at the half.

No. 10 City 59, Mervo 21: Dyzhanay Burton scored 13 points to power the host Knights (2-0) past the Mustangs. City led 41-9 at halftime.

Mount de Sales 57, Maryvale 30: Gabby Cha had 17 points and Eve Lukowski added 14 to power the host Sailors (2-1) past the Lions (2-2).

Arundel 59, Annapolis 41: Alison Shaner scored a game-high 16 points to lead the host Wildcats (1-0) past the Panthers.
