Mahoney, South River defeat No. 7 Glen Burnie in softball, 2-1

Raegan Mahoney went the distance, including five scoreless innings, as host South River upset No. 7 Glen Burnie, 2-1, in softball Wednesday.

The Seahawks (4-2) scored two runs in the bottom of the second and held on for the win.

The Gophers fell to 5-3.

No. 1 Eastern Tech 23, Owings Mills 0: Jordan Cargile and Breanna Casper pitched a combined no-hitter for the visiting Mavericks (9-0) over the Eagles.

No. 2 Northeast 11, Arundel 4: Winner Brooke Steinbach had seven strikeouts in seven innings and the visiting Eagles (8-0) beat the Wildcats.

Northeast led 8-0 after three innings.

No. 3 Chesapeake-AA 12, No. 13 Broadneck 6: The visiting Cougars (7-1) scored six runs in the top of the sixth to pull away from the Bruins.

Danielle Myers had two doubles for Chesapeake-AA.


No. 2 Calvert Hall 12, No. 7 Gilman 11: The host Greyhounds (6-7, 2-3 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference) scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to draw within one. Seven pitchers were used in the game.

Nick Delp went 2-for-3 with two doubles for the Cardinals (10-2, 4-2).

No. 3 Reservoir 2, Mount Hebron 0: Right-hander Cody Morris (3-0) gave up three hits, walked one and struck out 15 as the Gators (7-0) shut out the Vikings (5-2).

No. 5 Chesapeake-AA 10, Broadneck 6: Justin Snyder hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning as the visiting Cougars (9-0) beat the Bruins (5-3).

No. 10 Mount St. Joseph 2, Archbishop Spalding 0: Peter Solomon struck out 12 in a shutout as the Gaels (5-6, 4-2 MIAA A Conference) beat the Cavaliers (13-2, 5-2).

No. 11 Archbishop Curley 10, John Carroll 0: Winner Zack Ridgely (3-1) struck out 12 and went 2-for-4 with a home run as the visiting Friars (6-6, 5-2 MIAA A Conference) shut out the Patriots (2-4, 1-4).

Girls lacrosse

No. 12 Archbishop Spalding 14, No. 5 St. Paul's 11: The game was tied at 9 late in the second half when the host Cavaliers (8-4, 5-2 IAAM A Conference) pulled away to beat the Gators (5-4, 4-3).

Emily Cooper had a game-high five goals and Alexis Phillips had four for Spalding.

No. 13 Bryn Mawr 15, No. 11 St.Mary's 9: Georgia Carroll had five goals and an assist,b and the host Mawrtians (5-3, 5-2 IAAAM A Conference) beat the Saints (5-4, 3-4).

Bryn Mawr led 9-5 at halftime.

Mount de Sales 14, Garrison Forest 8: Mandy Ignacio scored seven goals to power the Sailors (2-7, 1-7 IAAM A Conference) past the host Grizzlies (1-8, 0-8).
