The top-ranked McDonogh girls lacrosse team controlled the game from the opening draw, beating Georgetown Visitation Prep (Washington), 21-10, Thursday in Vero Beach, Fla.

The Eagles (2-0) took an 8-2 lead 14minutes in and were ahead 14-6 at the break. McDonogh scored the first seven goals of the second half and cruised past the Cubs (1-2).

Brindi Griffin and Megan Whittle led the McDonogh offense with six goals each. The Eagles face Pennsylvania state champion Harriton tonight at 7 in Vero Beach.

The Eagles' winning streak stands at 93 games.

Boys lacrosse

No. 9 St. Mary's 15, Calverton 7: The host Saints (3-1) took a 9-2 lead at the break and were never threatened by the Cougars (2-2).

Jake Ellis had four goals and Timmy Hardy and Cole Robertson had three goals for St. Mary's.

Wednesday's baseball

No. 2 Gilman wins third straight: The Greyhounds improved to 3-1 by beating Nobles School (Massachusetts), 6-0, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The win was the third straight shutout for Gilman.

The Greyhounds beat St. Michael's, 10-0, on March 8 and Annapolis Area Christian School, 7-0, on March 12.
