No. 5 New Town boys basketball dominates in Class 1A North quarterfinal

The No. 5 New Town boys basketball team made a bold opening statement in its Class 1A North sectional quarterfinal Friday night.

The Titans, led by Malik Jones with a game-high 19 points, handled Academy for College and Career Exploration, 91-36.

New Town (19-5) advances to Monday's sectional semifinals and will host the Friendship Academy of Engineering and Technology-Bluford Drew Jemison winner.

Forest Park 73, Douglass 69: Anthony Bryson scored 19 points to power the Foresters (3-11) past the host Ducks in a Class 1A South sectional quarterfinal.

Douglass led 37-33 at halftime.

Mervo 64, Catonsville 46: Demetrich Williams scored 20 points, and the host Mustangs (13-4) beat the Comets in the Class 4A North sectional quarterfinal.

Mervo led 33-24 at the break.

Overlea 50, Eastern Tech 46: Keith Perry scored 16 points to lead the Falcons (6-14) over the host Mavericks (10-9) in the Class 2A North sectional quarterfinal.
