After losing two games in a row, the No. 8 Roland Park girls basketball team has started to turn things around.
The visiting Reds (10-9, 3-7 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference) rode a 13-point halftime lead and went on to beat Mercy, 52-27, on Saturday.
The win is the second straight for Roland Park. The Reds' longest winning streak, seven games, was halted by a 57-46 loss to No. 1 Archbishop Spalding on Jan. 11.
Jaia Alexander had a game-high 13 points for Roland Park. The Magic fell to 3-11, 0-8.
Bullis School 63, No. 9 Arundel 44: The Bulldogs used the inside-outside play of point guard Anthony Thompson and 6-foot-10 forward Andre Walker to overwhelm the Wildcats (13-7).
Bullis (15-4) extended its three-point halftime lead by outscoring Arundel 22-7 in the third quarter. Thompson made a 3-pointer and Walker had six points during the run. Thompson and Walker each finished with 17 points.
No. 5 River Hill wins Franklin Invitational: The Hawks scored 220.50 to capture the Franklin Invitational Tournament. No. 8 Owings Mills took second with 206, and No. 7 Hereford came in third with 193.
Boys' Latin wins Capital Duals: The Lakers (15-4) captured the Capital Duals by beating host St. John's (D.C.), 33-29.
With the Lakers trailing 29-27 and one match to go, Kahlan Lee-Lermer (113) got a pin in 2:29 to lift Boys' Latin over the Cadets.
Boys' Latin lost to St. John's, 39-38, on Jan.12.
No. 8 Roland Park 41, No. 7 St.Vincent Pallotti 32: The visiting Reds took a seven-point lead at halftime and weathered a rally by the Panthers (9-9, 3-5 IAAM A Conference) in the second half.
Lindsey Edwards led Roland Park with 13 points.
No. 9 Seton Keough 41, John Carroll 40: Karli Zeps made a layup, got fouled and converted the foul shot with 15seconds left to lift the host Gators (8-8, 4-4 IAAM A Conference) over the Patriots (6-10, 3-6).
Seton Keough led by one at halftime.
No. 14 River Hill 54, Glenelg 49, OT: The host Hawks (10-3) needed overtime to beat the Gladiators (7-6).
Glenelg led by three at halftime before River Hill tied the score in the next two quarters. Jenna Collins led the Hawks with 13 points.
Calvert Hall 57, Loyola 53: Mitch Cross scored a game-high 21 points, but the visiting Dons (4-14, 1-10 IAAM A Conference) fell to the Cardinals (10-11, 5-5).
