But the Eagles (22-7) tightened their perimeter defense and rolled, 71-54, in Thursday's girls opening round of the Bishop Walsh Invitational basketball tournament in Cumberland.
The Cubs (19-7) made eight 3-pointers in the first half and trailed, 39-32, at the break. Georgetown Visitation made 17 field goals, 12 of which were 3-pointers.
The Eagles outscored the Cubs 22-10 in the third quarter to pull away. Brianna Jacobs had a game-high 22 points for McDonogh, which will face St. John's (D.C.), a 77-10 winner over the host Spartans, in today's second-round action at 5:45 p.m.
No. 1 Archbishop Spalding 54, Elizabeth Seton 34: The Cavaliers (28-1) used stingy defense to hold the Roadrunners (19-11) to fewer than 10 points in three quarters.
Jade Scaife (16 points) and Torri Chestnut (11 points) led Spalding's offense. The Cavaliers face Good Counsel tonight at 7:30.
Good Counsel 68, No. 11 Seton Keough 44: The Falcons (18-3) proved to be too much for the Gators (11-16).
Seton Keough faces Elizabeth Seton today at 4:15 p.m.
