Galligan led a team that finished second in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference and handed champion St. Paul's its only loss of the year. Her floor leadership was key for a team that lost only four matches (18-4) while competing in the tough A Conference.
Her coach, Scott Rombach, credits her versatility as a major factor in his team's success. She is undecided on a college, but is looking to play volleyball.
JAMIE HUFFMAN Reservoir, hitter
The senior led the Gators to their first state title in any team sport, as Reservoir defeated Huntingtown, 3-0, to win the Class 3A state crown. One of the best all-around players in the area, Huffman played in all of Reservoir's 84 games this year and contributed 302 kills and 168 digs.Her 267 passes set up much of the offense for the Gators, who finished 21-0 and ranked No. 1 in The Sun's poll. She contributed 12 kills and 12 digs in the 2A state championship match.
Huffman, who also plays basketball and softball for Reservoir, wants to play all three sports in college next season.A four-year starter for Reservoir, she was the Gators' co-captain this season and has a 3.7 grade point average.
BRIDGETTE JORDAN Broadneck, libero
Jordan's play and leadership was a major reason the Bruins captured the Class 4A state title. The senior contributed 18 digs in the state championship match against Montgomery County's Wootton, and her 222 digs on the season led Broadneck to a 21-1 record. Bruins coach Romonzo Beans credits Jordan's leadership with helping the young Bruins win their last three matches in the playoffs, all by 3-2 scores. She also recorded 24 serving aces this season.
She hopes to play volleyball in college, but is undecided on a school.
ALEX KUPER Reservoir, libero
The defensive specialist for the Class 3A state champion, Kupermade contributions that were often overlooked. Her 321 digs led the Gators and set up much of the Reservoir offense. She had the ability to cover a lot of the court and play defense. The senior contributed 586 passes, which also led the team. Her 12 digs in the state championship match helped give Reservoir its first-ever state title.
A co-captain, Kuper also plays lacrosse and is looking to attend a four-year college and play volleyball.
MADDI LEE River Hill, hitter
One of the best all-around players in the area, Lee led the Hawks to the Class 2A state semifinals with her towering presence at the net. She recorded a Howard County-best 413 kills and 179 digs in 69 games. She was also a factor from the back line, where she served at 87 percent with 49 aces. Known for her powerful diagonal kills, Lee routinely took over games.
A three-year starter for the Hawks, Lee will attend the University of Maryland on a volleyball scholarship next year.
BRITTANY LILLEY Severna Park, hitter
Lilley was a key reason Severna Park upset heavily favored Broadneck to win the Anne Arundel County championship.Her 24 digs in that match were a career high.Her coach, Jamie Leventry, said that her work ethic and ability to play anywhere on the floor is what sets her apart. The senior three-year starter finished with 118 kills and 111 digs, both of which led her team. She also served at 88 percent during the year for the Falcons (15-2).
Volleyball is a secondary sport for Lilley,who will attend St. Francis (Pa.) on a full basketball scholarship next year.
AMANDA PARRY Catonsville, setter
A four-year starter, Parry led Catonsville with 454 assists and 65 digs. The senior was a right-side hitter her first two years before switching to setter as a junior. Her leadership was a prime reason the Comets went 14-3 and hosted the Class 3A North regional championship, where they took Towson to five games before falling. She also contributed 112 service aces and 95 kills this season.
Parry, who wants to play volleyball at a four-year college, has been offered several academic scholarships, including one from the University of Nebraska.
