Volleyball: Players to watch

Samantha Brostrom •Centennial, hitter

•The sophomore will be counted on to provide some of the power for the Eagles' potent, senior-led offense.

Katy Buck •Mount De Sales, hitter

•A standout on a senior-dominated team, the junior's consistency at the net is one of the keys to the Sailors' bid to win the IAAM A Conference.

Andrea Catucci •Archbishop Spalding, setter

•An All-IAAM A Conference selection last year as a junior, Catucci is the key to making the Cavaliers' offense click.

Tiffany Jacobson •Reservoir, setter

•She anchored the Gators' defense last year as a sophomore and helped lead the team to its first state title. With several top players having graduated, Jacobson will need to assume a leadership role.

Christi Laite • Severna Park, hitter

•The junior leads the front row for the defending Anne Arundel County champion Falcons.

Theo Matthai •Bryn Mawr, hitter

•A three-year varsity player, the junior will be counted on to help ease the transition for the Mawrtians from the IAAM BConference up to the A Conference.

Becky Paynter •River Hill, setter

•A steadying influence for the Class 2A state semifinalists last year, the senior will be called upon to play a bigger role in the offense this season.

Kourtney Salvarola •Broadneck, hitter

•She showed flashes of how good she can be at the state tournament last year as a sophomore, helping the Bruins win the Class 4A state title.

Bailey Webster •St. Paul's, hitter

•The Gatorade Player of the Year for Maryland last season as a junior, Webster is one of the most-recruited players in the country. She played for United States junior national team this summer.

Lindsay Will •South Carroll, hitter

•The Cavaliers came out of nowhere to win the Class 1A state title, and Will, now a senior, was a major reason why.
