The No. 11 Hereford girls soccer team got off to a rare fast start yesterday against Baltimore County rival and No. 13 Perry Hall, as midfielder Lauren Adams scored in the fourth minute, Lilly Novak added a highlight goal later in the half and the Bulls showed a strong finishing kick to come away with a 4-1 win over the visiting Gators.
Hereford improves to 9-1-1 this season, remaining undefeated in the county, while handing Perry Hall (6-3) its first league loss.
Adams placed a shot high to the near post from the left side for the early lead, and the Bulls made it 2-0 when center midfielder Anna Curreri won a ball at midfield and sent a through ball down the left side to Abby Noble, whose left-footed cross to the far post found Novak in stride for what proved to be the game-winning header.
After Perry Hall cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal from Lauren Vandaniker early in the second half, Noble scored twice to seal the win.
"Finally! It's taken us all season to put together a first half like that. ... We've been slow getting out, so I was very pleased with our effort this game," Hereford coach Nancy Ferguson said. "We had support all over the field, communicating and nice touches on the ball. We answered the challenge."
