Jeff Sanborn
McDonogh
Sanborn's top-ranked Eagles were one of the most dominant track and field teams in the area in a long time. But having a lineup with four All-Metro picks and a number of other talented performers can be a challenge for a coach. However, Sanborn did what he's done for years: Give everyone chances to shine individually while realizing that they're still part of a team.
Sanborn also did a good job of putting people in multiple events getting the most out of their athletic ability. All-Metro pick Kristen Brown, for example, competed in the 100 hurdles and long jump plus two relays.
McDonogh turned in a performance for the ages in the title meet. The Eagles won by an amazing 178 points, crushing the rest of the field. They won 15 of the 18 events that day at Calvert Hall.
This is the 18th outdoor season for Sanborn at McDonogh, and he said it was fun to be able to work with a team with so much talent.
"This is probably the deepest team we've ever had," Sanborn said.
