Boys soccer: Player of the Year

Dave Arnold, Mount St. Joseph, forward, seniorArnold was a constant threat to score for the Gaels, notching 15 goals and six assists.

However, he will long be remembered for stepping into the goal in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference playoffs and making several improbable saves in penalty-kick shootouts. Arnold stopped three shots by Calvert Hall in the semifinals and three more against McDonogh to win the championship.

"His work rate and attitude are top notch," coach Mike St. Martin said. Arnold is also on the Gaels' lacrosse team and plays piano for the school choir.

He has a 4.0 GPA and is deciding among Princeton, Columbia and Cornell.
