In capturing the Class 3A individual state championship at Hereford High on Saturday, the senior standout led the Raiders to their first team title in 19 years. Bazell, a first-team All-Metro selection last year, ran the 3.1-mile course in a time of 16minutes, 29 seconds, with teammate Michael Lynch taking second (16:50), as the Raiders placed all five scoring runners in the top 30. At Hereford's Bull Run Invitational on Oct. 11, Bazell set a meet record (15:51) with his win in the Elite Division. He also earned first-team All-Metro status in track and field last year, capturing a state title in the 3,200 meters in the 3A race.
