Boys Athlete of the Week: Michael Campanaro, River Hill, football

The senior All-Metro running back made the most of his limited touches in the No.1 Hawks' 54-8 victory over Hammond on Friday. Campanaro accounted for 274all-purpose yards, scoring touchdowns seven of the 11 times he touched the ball. On the ground, he carried the ball eight times for 144 yards and fivescores. On special teams, he returned three punts for 130 yards, including touchdowns of 47 and 53 yards. The seven touchdowns were one short of tying the public schools state record.

After scoring a 67-yard touchdown on the first offensive play of the second half, Campanaro was rested for the remainder of the game. Campanaro, who is set to play at Wake Forest, helped lead the Hawks to a 14-0 record and their first state championship last season when he totaled 2,310yards on offense and scored 30touchdowns. On defense, he's a standout in the Hawks' secondary.
